Problem Statement In the healthcare sector, timely and accurate reporting of patient safety data to high-level leadership is crucial. However, the manual process of extracting information from emails, creating pivot tables, generating charts, and then summarizing the data for leadership was time-consuming and error-prone. This led to delays in providing actionable insights, impacting decision-making at the leadership level. Solution Overview To address these challenges, we developed an automated solution leveraging Automation Anywhere and Generative AI. The bot integrates with Outlook to automatically read incoming emails, extracts the relevant patient safety data, and then creates Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts in Excel. Once the charts are generated, they are saved as images and sent to Azure OpenAI to request a summary of the visual data for leadership review. Implementation Considerations Outlook Email Integration: The bot connects to Microsoft Outlook to read incoming patient safet

Another week of APA Training Camp, another question round up! This week, we’ve compiled a list of questions from our Office Hours to assist you in navigating the training sessions smoothly. Let’s jump right in! Q: What is API Task? How is it different to Task Bots? A: API tasks do not need a bot runner to execute; they run in a container, independent of the local system. Q: Can you give some light on how we use the Context tool? A: The context establishes the high-level guidelines for the AI skill, defining what you expect it to accomplish. For instance, you might specify that the AI acts as a classification agent or content extractor. This context serves as the foundation for the skill, with additional user prompts providing further detail on how the AI should operate. Different platforms may refer to this concept as "personality," using various naming conventions, but the underlying principle remains the same: first, you set the high-level guidelines, and then you provide deeper inst
Automation is supposed to make life easier. But all too often, teams dive headfirst into development only to realize—too late—that their automation doesn’t actually solve the right problem. It’s a frustrating cycle of rework, missed expectations, and bots that break the moment something changes. So how do you design automations that are scalable, resilient, and deliver real business value—without the headaches? That’s exactly what Matt Stewart, Director in Automation Anywhere’s Community and Learning team, tackled in his recent presentation, From Complex to Conquered: A Design Framework to Deliver Rapid Results. Drawing from real-world experience, Matt introduced a five-stage framework that simplifies automation design and ensures teams focus on business value first—not just automating what already exists. In this post, we’ll break down his approach, show you why most automation failures start with bad process design, and walk through a real-world example of automation done right. Why
