In V11 recorders was failing sometime due to unable to find object properties, so we used to use SAP VB script (SAP Recorder) or Metabot. As you said first need to set focus and perform certain action but this approach is not required in A360.
In A360 for SAP automation we can use Universal Recorder Or SAP package.
In SAP package just provide the field path and no need to set focus. In my case I automated most of my SAP task using Universal recorder.
