I have an email event trigger set up to check every 120 seconds.

When I check the trigger listener log file, it does appear to run every 120 seconds.

However, each time it pulls information, I have a line saying:

2026-Feb-16 Mon 09:23:51.596 INFO [pool-221-thread-1] - com.automationanywhere.bottrigger.email.task.EmailTask - checkElapsedTime - Time taken to poll emails 4453
2026-Feb-16 Mon 09:23:51.596 WARN [pool-221-thread-1] - com.automationanywhere.bottrigger.email.task.EmailTask - checkElapsedTime - Time taken to poll emails is higher than the polling interval in bot. Please increase the polling interval in bot to more than 4 SECONDS

Which indicates that I should increase my polling interval.

First question, why am I seeing this warning if my trigger is set for 120 seconds?

Second, where can I set this polling interval if it is different than what I set on the trigger in my bot?

@sleemand Question: Does your service level require a 2 minute maximum response time for these emails? If so, you may wish to have some other conduit for communication (e.g., a specialized web site that allows for instantaneous communication with 24/7 personnel).

Having that short of a SLA is unusual and you need to consider your requirements. You're essentially utilizing your bot runner license just for email, which is not usually cost effective.

Let's start there. What is your SLA?

@Aaron.Gleason That is a fair question, and we could increase the trigger time. We do need to have at least 10 minute response on these particular tasks. These are system generated emails which tell the bot that a customer transaction is ready to be sent to their FTP server.

I’m just not sure why the log file is throwing this warning when it doesn’t align with what we currently have configured even at 2 minutes. 2 min > 4 seconds.

Most of the time, the email fetching takes less than 1 second which gets rounded down in the log to 0 seconds.

@sleemand That is odd and it looks like you may have had a timeout issue. Check the automation manually on the bot runner to ensure it's running correctly. Send mail problems happen when IT restricts things like SMTP access to certain computers.

I would definitely reduce the rate your automation runs to your max SLA. No need to use that bot runner exclusively for mail polling. Let it run other automations, too! 😊
