Unable to Proceed After Bot Agent Installation While Connecting Local Device

Hi Everyone,

I am currently using Automation Anywhere Community Edition and facing an issue while trying to connect my local device.

During the setup process, when I install the Bot Agent, the installation completes successfully. Normally, after the installation, it should automatically move to the next step, which is Enable Extension.

However, the platform is unable to detect that the Bot Agent has already been installed, so it stays on the same step and does not proceed further. Because of this, I am unable to complete the setup and run my bots.

Things I have already tried:

  • Reinstalling the Bot Agent
  • Restarting the PC
  • Running the installer as Administrator
  • Checking internet connection

But the issue still remains.

Has anyone faced this issue before? Any solution or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I also faced similar issue. I went to devices and deleted existing local device. Next time when the installer ran it created a new local device and it's working fine.

Hmm… You already tried most of the common troubleshooting steps, so it may be worth checking a couple of additional points.

  1. Check whether the Automation Anywhere Bot Agent service exists
    • If the service is missing, it may indicate that the Bot Agent installation was not completed successfully.
  2. Check the Bot Agent installation logs
    • After the Bot Agent installation, log files should be generated. Reviewing these logs may help identify why the platform cannot detect the installed agent.
    • Check “Show the Windows Installer log” to see Bot Agent Install log
Installer log file path: ~/%username%/Appdata/Local/Temp/MSI[some hex digits].log
    •

These two checks might help narrow down the cause of the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is actually my first local device connection, so there is no existing device to delete. The Bot Agent installs successfully, but Automation Anywhere does not detect it and does not proceed to the “Enable Extension” step.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the services, and the Automation Anywhere Bot Agent service is actually missing.

I also checked the installation logs. Below are some relevant parts from the log:

Property(C): MsiSystemRebootPending = 1

Product: Automation Anywhere Bot Agent -- Configuration completed successfully.

Windows Installer reconfigured the product.
Product Version: 22.240.35
Reconfiguration success or error status: 0

Even though the installation says “completed successfully,” the service is not created and Automation Anywhere cannot detect the Bot Agent.

@Lezzli Did you follow the steps in the FAQ? That solves the issues most of the time.

@Lezzli At that point, you will need to get your IT department involved. There is probably some security software that is interfering.
