What Repetitive Tasks Are Worth Automating First?

I’m interested in how people decide which repetitive tasks are actually worth automating.

I work in medical billing, where some daily tasks involve checking information, moving data between systems, updating records, and following up on routine items. Not every task needs automation, but some repetitive processes seem like good candidates for it.

For those using Automation Anywhere, how do you usually identify a workflow that is worth automating?

Do you look mainly at time saved, task volume, error reduction, or how frequently the process is repeated? I’d also be interested to hear about a simple automation that made a noticeable difference in your daily work.

Hi @renvik04

we don’t automate single tasks but whole processes.

We look at the following citeria to decide whether a process is worth to be automated:

  • business case
    • time saved per excecution
    • frequency of process excecution
    • estimated development effort
  • other aspects
    • process stability: how frequently does the process change? process changes require rework
    • number of applications involved: the fewer applications involved, the lower the complexity
    • application stability: how frequently do the involved applications change? applications changes require rework
