Has anyone managed to send user submitted data from Salesforce via the connected apps?

Specifically using a button trigger within salesforce, that will prompt for an input. During testing, all SF case data is being sent, but the user submitted field does not. The API name was set and used, and we also tried submitting the variable as the actual AA variable name, but to no avail. There seems to be very little documentation in regards to this.
