Bot stuck in progress - status is active - can't stop

I was running a bot on Community Edition and I believe it may be stuck in a loop as I get this error when I try to run something else or remove device:

UNKNOWN: User: (XYZ) is already running a bot on device: (ABC)

If the problem persists, please contact...


Is there any way I can resolve this? I've tried multiple different solutions and followed prior community messages.

Please check below workaround that may help in resolving the issue:


Try the below steps one by one and check.

  • Restart Bot Agent service


  • Go to Devices -> My Devices and remove the device from the list and add it again.
  • Restart Bot Agent service


  • Follow below steps -
  1. Uninstall Bot Agent
  2. Delete files in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\AutomationAnywhere
  3. Download and install Bot Agent again
  4. Log in to Control Room, Go to Devices -> My Devices, Add device, if device already exists, then overwrite
