The way forward would be to know if the issue/behavior is seen across multiple machines. Likely, that won't be the case. Using cmd as administrator to run a System File Checker Scan will help. Reboot the machine/VM once the scan completes.

 

Step:

  1. Open cmd as Administrator
  2. Run: sfc /scannow

Reviewing the Windows Event Viewer Application Logs for any crash events with respect to Excel will shed more light on the files and faulting modules which aren't working properly or crashing within the affected machine.
