Hi,  the official documentation recommends SQL Enterprise or Standard version of database for A360 on-premise installation, however it does not mandate it.  Has anyone installed A360 with SQL Express edition of the database and encountered any issues in performance in production environment?  Or does it work well with SQL Express edition as well?

@Pradeep Raj.J

For a POC, Test environment or learning you won’t be problem using SQL Express Edition. But for a real environment  you should be considered a Standard or Enterprise Edition

  • Compute: Limited to lesser of 1 socket or 4 cores
  • Buffer pool memory: 1410MB
  • Maximum database size: 10GB
  • High Availability: no failover clustering or availability groups

Thank you, I understand that is the ideal thing to do.  But considering the costs for a small RPA usage in production, what would be the impact if we use SQL Express.  I believe it is technically possible and all the functionalities are expected to work well, only scaling looks to be a challenge as per the document but many small RPA usages do not need to bother about scaling, HA or DR.  If I am going to run 50 bots once in a day, do I really have to spend more money on licenses? Is AA becoming unaffordable for small Clients then?

@Pradeep Raj.J

As you say, it is technically possible. I think you won’t be problems using the SQLExpress Edition if the instance would  be dedicated to A360.  But, keep in mind the limitations for future scalling.

Just consider follow a plan for monitoring and backups.

Thank you, I am not saying it is technically possible, but the official document says that we can use it for testing and POC, so in PROD also functionally it should work fine I assume.

I will wait to see if any fellow member has had any experience with A360 + SQL Express edition in an on-premise installation, to see if they have really experienced any challenges.

Great.

I was facing an issue with the SQL server and Agent service stoppage all of a sudden (after the recent upgrade to A360 V.27 build) and was unable to restart those which then eventually caused the re-installation of the full setup.

Not at all an ideal option to have in case you are planning it for the prod env.

@Pradeep Raj.J  if you concern about SQL server license cost etc., compare with oracle… product supports oracle db as well.
